About This 20 Minute Timer

Twenty minutes is the classic power nap because you wake before slipping into deep sleep, avoiding the heavy grogginess that follows longer naps. It doubles as one of the most common oven-stage lengths in home cooking.

Twenty minutes is three blocks an hour, about 1,600 walking steps, or a nap that ends just before deep sleep begins. Add a coffee immediately before a 20 minute nap and the caffeine peaks as you wake — the so-called coffee nap, which outperforms either on its own.

What People Use a 20 Minute Timer For

How This 20 Minute Timer Works

You do not need to press anything — the 20 minutes began the moment this page finished loading. At zero the alarm sounds, the digits flash red and the tab title changes to a bell icon. Stop Alarm silences it; Reset starts a fresh 20 minutes.

You can change the alarm sound at any point before or during the countdown — Beep, Digital, Alarm Bell, Chime, Siren and Soft Wake are all available, and each plays a short preview when selected. To use a different length, press Reset and type any duration, or pick one from the main timer page.

20 Minute Timer — FAQ

Why is 20 minutes the ideal power nap?

Deep sleep typically begins somewhere after the 20 to 30 minute mark. Waking before you reach it means you get the alertness benefit without sleep inertia — the groggy, disoriented feeling that follows longer naps.

What is the 20-20-20 rule?

Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Running a 20 minute timer while you work turns it from a good intention into something that actually happens.

Does this 20 minute timer start automatically?

Yes — the countdown begins as soon as the page loads, so there is nothing to press. If you would rather start it yourself, press Reset and then Start.

Can I pause the 20 minutes?

Yes. Pause holds the remaining time exactly where it is; Resume continues from that point and Reset returns the clock to the full 20 minutes.

What happens when the 20 minutes finishes?

VClock plays your selected alarm sound on a loop, flashes the display and changes the browser tab title. Press Stop Alarm to silence it.

Is this 20 minute timer free to use?

Completely. There is no sign-up, no download, no daily limit and no watermark — set it as many times as you like.
